I am going to hop by Perth Library and see if I can find any more there. The marriage certificate I have seen in it's original form definitely refers to Peter Ferguson as being employed as "Soldier in 2nd regiment of Fencibles" which I have only found in reference to Weymss fencible regiment raised in Sutherland (2nd regiment of fencible men) which i believe marched to Perth. The Perth and Caithness Fencibles are referred to as "Perthshire Highlanders" and Breadalbanes don't seem to match either but who knows!
It's interesting that the 2nd Regiment of Fencibles volunteered for service in Ireland in 1798 which is the year Peter Ferguson married a local girl- 26 February 1798 to be exact. Now... just need to see when they departed for Ireland to see if it was a case of "let's get married in case I don't come back" or not.
