I think you are speaking of Patrick Y. Perkins. He died 1/3/1888 and is buried in Little Eagle Creek cemetery in Hamilton county,IN.He was a resident of Boone county when he enlisted as a private on Sept 18,1861. He mustered out Sept 19,1864.
I cleaned the stone back in July. His wife is also buried there and is on the marker.
I can get you in contact with a descendant who has more info on him.
