In the 1860 census, he is listed as having $50.00 personal estate and no real estate. In 1870 he has moved, with a real estate value of $1000.00. So it makes sense that he very well might have acquired the real estate by subbing for Philip Schroenk. I was not aware of the fact that a draftee could find someone to take his place, and that is a very interesting thing, indeed.
I took your good advice about ebay. Maybe I'll get lucky one day.
