Izak Katz from Zhuravno (Zurawno) Galicia, b. late 1880s

Surnames: Katz
I'm hoping to find some basic information about my great-grandfather's service in WWI, I believe in the Austro-Hungarian army. His name was Izak Katz and at the time he lived in Zhuravno, though he was originally from Radziechow.

He was Jewish if that helps at all, though I know Katz and probably Izak/Isaac, Itzak Katz was a common name. Any help to point me in a direction would be very appreciated.

Thanks!
Amy

Hi Amy:
I am also a descendent of the KATZ family from Zhurawno. It was a very large family. My grandfather was Shimon (b. 1890), the oldest son of Jakob, son of Aaron. My grandfather's sister, Yetta, married a cousin. His name was Isak KATZ (b. 1898), son of Leo, son of Aaron. We called him Uncle Irving. I knew him and I know his children Rita and Jules.

Please write to me off-board at mlbishow@comcast.net.

Hi Marlene - Thank you for sharing your family with me. But, it sounds as though your Katz family is a different one. The Isak Katz I'm speaking of was not originally from Zhuravno, he was born in Rzuchow to Mendel and Lotte Katz. He moved to Zhuravno in his 20s and married a local Zhuravno girl. They raised their family there until they moved to America around 1920.

Best,
Amy
