BERLIN CENTER, OH - Memorial services celebrating the life of Howard B. Young, 88, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church.
Howard was born June 28, 1925, in Ellsworth, Ohio, the son of Leroy and Mary (Stroup) Young. Howard graduated from Canfield High School. (Mahoning County)
After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II.
He retired in 1974 after working 30 years for the U.S. government.
After retirement, Howard worked at Patio Door Incorporated for over 10 years.
Howard was a member of Ellsworth Presbyterian since 1949, serving on many boards
. He was also an Ellsworth Trustee for 12 years, member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Canfield and former member of the Berlin Ellsworth Ruritan Club.
Sports played a very important part of Howard’s life, he was very proud to be the announcer for Western Reserve Blue Devil Football for 35 years.
He was an avid bowler and golfer and played in a softball game at the age of 80.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sally (Rhoads) Young, whom he married Nov. 2, 1946; sons Howard (Helen) of Lake Milton, Ohio and Brian (Susan) of North Bloomfield.
He also leaves five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Minnie Troutman, Jessie Cramer, and Mary Jane Young; brothers Myron, Leroy “Shortie,” Stewart, Ralph, and Walt; and two grandchildren.
Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. Sunday until time of services at the church.
The young family requests that memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Ellsworth Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund in Howard’s name.
