Peter S. Yianilos Succumbs, Well Known Tona. Resident
Noted Confectioner Was Prominent in Lodge, Club Circles After Coming to Twin Cities from His Native Greece; Funeral Services to Be Conducted Sunday Afternoon
Peter S. Yianilos, 57, of 100 Scott street, died shortly after 11 o?clock last night in the DeGraff Memorial hospital. He was a well known resident of Tonawanda, having been in business here since coming to America from his native country, Greece, in 1903. He belonged to a number of fraternal and civic organizations in the Tonawandas and Buffalo and was a past trustee of the Greek Orthodox church on Oak street, Buffalo.
Mr. Yianilos came to America with his three brothers, James, George and Lewis. They established a confectionery store on Webster street upon their arrival here. Later a similar store was open on South Niagara street. In later years Mr. Yianilos and his brothers engaged in a similar undertaking at 64 Young street. Confectionery stores were also established in Buffalo. Since coming to America Mr. Yianilos is the second one of the brothers to die. The first was Lewis.
Mr. Yianilos has extensive real estate holdings in the Tonawandas and Buffalo.
Club Affiliations
He was a member of North Tonawanda Lodge, No. 860, B.P.O.E.; the Eldredge Bicycle Club, the Twin City Lawn Bowling club of the Tonawandas, the. A.H.E.P.A. lodge and Dolina society of Buffalo.
Mr. Yianilos is survived by his wife, Katherine; a daughter, Helen K.; three sons, Spero, John, and Nicholas at home; two brothers, James of Buffalo and George of Tonawanda, and two sisters, residents of Greece.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o?clock from the residence and at 3 o?clock from the Greek Orthodox church. The Rev. Dioniscos Papadatos will officiate and burial will be in Elmlawn.
