Barbara,

Feel free to check out my Thomas White and Peregrine White Trees. I have tried to document all of my sources as well as add comments where warranted. Most of the trees online for descendants of both Thomas and Malachi White seem to hit a road block when trying to establish the parents of Peregrine. Several years ago I communicated with Susan Rosen from the Mayflower Society. She and I feel that Peregrine White, a Soldier of the Revolution from Freetown, MA was a descendant of Thomas White and Hope Jenkins. We have both tried for many years to document this but have not been successful. The closest we have come is the asterisked listing in what I believe is the Mayflower Descendants. That's the George Bowman book right? I have also found several listings in books containing will records where Peregrine is listed as witnessing several wills for that family. Finally, I have written the following comment to my Peregrine White tree which doesn't really prove anything but it shows a greater link between Peregrine and Thomas and Hope White than to any other family.

"In Early New England parents frequently named their children after themselves or other family members. Because of this Peregrine White is more likely the son of Thomas White and Hope Jenkins than he is of Paul White and Elizabeth Curtis. Family names from the lineage of Paul White and Elizabeth Curtis are not evident. Peregrine & Mary's children are named: Thomas (Peregrine's father), Malachi (Mary's father), and Hope (Peregrine's & Mary's mothers). This is seen further in their grandchildren - Thomas White and Huldah Gurney's children: Peregrine (Thomas' father), Silas Gurney (Huldah's father), James Harvey (James married two of Huldah's sisters and helped save the family estate), Thomas Howland (Thomas' grandfathers), Roland Palmer (Huldah's mother), and Nicholas Hathaway. Peregrine's son Malachi and his wife Content Crapo also used several family names in naming their children: Mary Howland, Content Peckham, Malachi H., Hope Ann, Hannah S., Experience C., and Peregrine."

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
