For the record, the letter that is previously mentioned was published in “William Weatherford His Country and His People” on page 1093 by Lynn Hastie and reads as follows:

“August 19, 1942
Grand Junction, Colo.
To whom it may concern:

This is to certify that I, William Perry Weatherford, am the father of Novella Housel of Glendoria, California, and that I am the son of Buttle Benton Weatherford, and Buttel Benton Weatherford is the son of Thomas Jefferson Weathersford, and Thomas Jefferson Weathersford is the son of William Weathersford who commanded the Creek Indians and surrendered to General Jackson in the War of 1812-14.
William Weathersford was known among the white people as Red Eagle, the Chief of the Creek Indians, My [great-great-] Grand-mother C. Hoy Weathersford was a Choctaw Indian and I well remember hearing my Mother and my Father talk of the relationship that we sustained toward the Creek and Choctaw Indians and talk about General Sam Houston of the early days of Texas, who often used to visit my Grandpa’s [Thomas Jefferson Weatherford] home in the early days of Texas.
My father left the letter “s” out of his name after he was 30 years old, spelling the name Weatherford, and I also have accordingly left the letter “s” out.

This letter was given to the Mobile Public Library by Dr. Weatherford’s youngest child, daughter Willa Weatherford Edling, Pinedale, Wyoming, on the 15th of Sept. 1984.
