My grandmother rose Nicholas daughter past away in 1994 at 103 or 5 yrs old she never told me about the last name Leiter.

1. question needs to be ask "Do you think back then the name change was random or officially done?

2. How sure are you about the last name being Leiter.

3. Whoever post on FAG has Nicholas as Mary's husband not brother.

Most of what you found I found and still reviewing the information. I too found his death notice on Fulton.com

What I am getting from you is may be do a search on Leiter to find out what Nicholas changed his name may be a juicy story there. I will call for his Death Cert and for my GM rose death cert too. I really haven't done much on this line until last year.

I also found that 1870 census and I believe I over looked it or dismissed it but I am aware of it. This story never came up in my family, family secrets LOL
