BESSEMER, PA. - Cyril Anthony Vrabel, 90, passed away peacefully on Aug. 6, at the Butler Veterans Hospital.

Cyril was born in Ramey, Pa., on Feb. 1, 1924, the son of the late Andrew and Josephine Kotnik Vrabel.

A lifelong resident of Bessemer, PA. Cyril had graduated from Bessemer High in 1944, and served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp as a Tech Sergeant.
He was a member of the Army 8th, was stationed in England and had been a prisoner of war from Nov. 21, 1944, until his liberation by the Soviet Army on May 1, 1945.

After the war, Cyril married the former Suzanne Solomon on July 6, 1946.
Making their home in Bessemer, Cyril became employed as a Millwright and packer at the Bessemer Cement Co., retiring after 42 years.
He became a member of St. Anthony Church in 1953.

Cyril was very community minded.
He was a member of the American legion, The Bessemer Croation Club, he enjoyed hunting, golfing, vegetable gardening and polka music. But he got his biggest kick serenading his wife, Suzanne, with the song “Look At Us.”

Cryil will be lovingly missed by, sons Ronald (Patricia) Vrabel of New Castle, Pa., and Terry Vrabel of New Brighton, Pa.; daughters Melanie (Jerry) McCree of Loveland, and Jocelyn Des Laurier of Mililani, Hawaii; brother Andrew Vrabel of New Castle; sister Monica Bader of New Middletown, OH; his grandchildren, Andrew Vrabel, Alan Vrabel, Zachary Vrabel and Chase Des Laurier; stepgrandson Jason (Melanie) Moyer; great-grandchild Andrew Vrabel; and step great-grandchildren Jenna Moyer, Gabriel Moyer, Joel Moyer.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents; wife Suzanne in 2011; sisters Katherine Horney and Bernadette Vrabel; and brother Daniel.

Family will receive well-wishers at the Terry A. Cunningham Funeral Home at 203 Oak St. in Bessemer on Sunday, Aug. 10, from 4 to 7 p.m., and again on Monday, Aug. 11, from 9 to 10 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Christ the King Parish St. Anthony Church, with the Rev. James Downs officiating.

Graveside services will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the New Castle area Honor Guard.
