Hello Paul,

I'm flattered by the'experts' title but I only know related Tyas and some others we gathered in over the years. Where did you get the 'experts' bit from?

There is probably no doubt that all Tyas are descended from the one that came over in 1066 but there are loads of 'Tyas' families in the country, you appear to have some of them jumbled up (I'm not trying to be a smartypants). There were (to my knowledge) three distinct families in Conisbro in the 19th century, the Richard you mention, the millwright, was from a Tickhill family, there was a Thomas a butler who's family were from South Kirkby and my wife's line a Robert who was a blacksmith, who went to Conisbro from Adwick le Street around 1845,and prior to that were in Carcroft/Owston, Bilham, Skelbrook and Hooton Pagnell back to around 1625 but the last 5 places are all within a stone's throw of each other. I know of a family (you mentioned them) in Bolton on Dearne and we went back about 5 generations with them before realising we could not prove any ties to them even though some of them lived in Hooton Pagnell for a time. What I'm saying is, don't grab a name and assume because the surname is Tyas they're related. The fist suggestion I would make is, tell me your father and Grandfathers (and any others!) Christian names and dates of birth and if they are any I know you can have all the info I have on them. If you are related I'll give you the whole shooting match if you want but it's not as much fun for you.

I can't be exact about any dates I've mentioned because I'm an invalid and the files are in another room, Linda will dig them out later when you give me some more info. We did the original searching in 1983 and I spend my time doing my own surname now.

Keep in touch, my email is rayhoggart@yahoo.co.uk.

Regards,

Ray
