Surnames: Twamley/ Hume
My gggggrandfather James Twamley b. 1795, married Elizabeth Hume b. 1801 in Co. Wicklow. They had 7 children but know names of only 6: Elizabeth, Dora (Dorthea), Hester, Mary Jane, Charlotte and William (he went by his middle name of Hume). They came to US in approx. 1848 via New York. Eldest son didn't come over until 1850 to 1853 and don't know his name...rying to find out townsland they had lived in and info on this eldest son as well as James and Elizabeth's parents and siblings if possible. My ggggrandfather "Hume" graduated high school at age 14 in Dublin and excelled in languages.

Surnames: Irish Twamleys/Hume
Caveat: I've spent many years tediously researching the Irish Twamley branches in the Carlow area...with the exception of land ownership/tithe records, losses in the Rebellions, etc., early records are rare. I combed records for area Humes and my conjecture is that your James Hume family could possibly be related to the Rev. James Hume (1837), who was curate at the RC Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin (Ballylinan) in the Carlow area, along with an Arthur Hume, who was rector of another parish in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin - served Ballynakill, Abbeyleix and Tullow, Wicklow 848‑'50′?) who happened to live near the Wicklow-Kildare border in Ballitore (Ballytore), which in turn, was in close vicinity to the family of the Rev. James Twamley (Episcopal Rector of Timolin, Boakefield, Ballitore, Kildare in co. Wicklow or Laois/ Queen's Co.). James was later curate/rector of parishes in Wakefield, Yorkshire. Note: James' branch of Twamleys also had a family seat in Bedford, Eng. Rev. James Twamley was one of 10 children whose siblings lived in the Cronelea Mullincuff, Wicklow Carlow area (there was also a Rev. John Twamley from Timolin, Ballytore).

Although unproven, your James Twamley, b April 1795, could possibly be a son of John Twamley and Mary Lyndon of the townland of Coolkenna (-o) near Mullincuffe, Cronelea. Rev. John Twamley's dau. Elizabeth Twamley b. 1865, married Richard (Clare Castle) Maunsell, a farmer, abt. 1890.

Corroborating records of Twamlelys you may want to pursue are: Records for William H (possibly HUME???????) Twamley, of Rathtoole Cottage, Timolin, Ballytore/Ballitore. In 1910 Mr. Twamley lived in Rathtoole House, Rathtoole, Ballitore on the border line of Kildare and Wicklow. He farmed on more than 302 acres in Rathcoole, Baltinglass Union, Hartstown, Co. Wicklow where he raised Angus Cattle, Ulster white pigs and Ulster boars and other livestock for 30+ yrs.
