I am also researching this family. I too have many questions, but I also have some theories that I would like to discuss with you. We know that Martin (who married Elizabeth Russell) came from VA, and some have suggested that he is a son of another Martin who lived in Gap Valley, VA. If so, then he was separated from that family group while still very young. The Gap Valley, VA Turpins ended up in KY, but our Martin ended up in Anderson, County, TN--as far as I can tell, he was the only Turpin arriving in that region. Why and how did he become separated from the family? My theory is that he bonded himself as a teenager as an indentured servant to a man named David Love in Montgomery, County, VA. (I have documentation showing that someone named Martin Turpin was bonded to David Love about this time in Montgomery, County.) The fact that this Love family moved to the Campbell's station area in Knox County is well documented. What do you think?
