Thank you for your kind reply, Howard. This is the first positive reply I've had so far and it’s quite exciting, I must say.
I had not even thought about looking for wills/administrations of Colin and Betty Dare, as my main purpose was to find someone/anyone who may have known him or his extended families (if any). So far, I have hit a brick wall.
Colin Dare’s great niece was able to provide me with his army details at Aldershot, his marriage record to Betty Dare in 1948, (whilst still married to Joyce Trevor) and his death record in Salisbury Wiltshire.
You asked what evidence I have of a bigamy charge? I have none. It is merely a family rumour since 1948/49 that was told to my mother, thru Joyce’s family in Calcutta. It was believed that he was imprisoned on bigamy charges. So it’s only hearsay.
I have found birth and marriage records for Joyce Trevor’s father & mother thru familysearch.org., but cannot find any trace of Joyce’s birth in India or any marriage record to Colin Dare, which must have been pre-1947. She was listed as Joyce Olive Dare on an UK passenger list on the “Empress of Scotland” docked in Liverpool on 26 Feb 1948 and Housewife: destination C/o RASC Depot, Aldershot, Hants.
You mentioned that there is a researcher on Genes Reunited who has done extensive research for the Trevor family. I would be love to contact her as I feel she may help me solve some of the mystery.
Re Colin Dare - As an RSM, I don’t know who to talk to about his military connections as I am really still a novice at all this. Can you point me in the right direction? I did write to the Bibby Line (who used to own the mv Devonshire)a few years ago, before I knew that he was stationed Aldershot from 1939 ? but they could not help. The thing is, it was so long ago, and I’m not sure where to start.
As regards his having been a driving instructor, I have placed an advert in the Salisbury Journal, but no luck so far. I did also write to the Broadchalke newspaper, the local ‘rag’ in Broadchalke, his last known address, but unfortunately, they did not respond.
Thanks once again for your help. I hope what little info I have supplied can assist in finding out what happened to Joyce Trevor (Dare)and Betty Dare. Is there a divorce record for either of them? Did Betty remain married to him. His death certificate does not help.
Best regards
