Not connected with the Great War but you asked where the name originated. During my research the earliest I have found is in a will of Nicholas Trayland of Finchingield in Essex, (Cooper)dated 25th January 1627. In the parish records his proven offspring were recorded variously as Trayloe, Trayling, Trayland. The priest wrote down what he thought he heard! etc. Regards. Dorrie
