Which was your grandfather? Because there were two. Sr born in Delaware(? I question this because he listed NY on some census' but we think he was hiding where he was truly from) had a Jr born in Iowa. The later married Hulda Luck. (I THINK that was her last name). I've seen reference that her name might have been something else but not had time to research it much.
The "Sons of the American Revolution" is an organization for persons who's ancestors fought in the American Revolution. For membership you have to list your ancestors. For Ben Sr, a lot of individuals list he died at sea. However, we know he married Narcissa Dennison after that "event" and that is the line I am descended from.
From a court case we know he was involved in a lumber deal that went bad. After that deal he disappeared from Delaware and went west. There he was actually the first sheriff of Audubon County Iowa. He eventually signed up to fight in the union army. He died of typhoid and was likely buried in Columbus KY. I've not been able to find a grave for him and I THINK he might have been moved to an unmarked grave across the river in Illinois at Mound City National Cemetery. But I have no proof. Whew! Questions?
