I am researching the DITCH surname and have come across at least 10 different various spellings. Has anyone been able to link Mathias with either Henry Teutsch or John Phillip Teutsch or George Adam Teutsch? They all also arrived close to the same time as Mathias in 1751, except George he came a few years later. I noticed that your Peter used the name DITCH when marrying Betsy Hull, it is possible he is a Ditch? and that the names Teach and Ditch are some of the same people? These families located in the same exact areas cannot be a coincidence. I would appreciate any help possible. I have been trying to trace each of the lines to find out which one my Samuel Ditch, born 1793 in PA was from. He was married in Indiana County, PA January 1820. There is a widow Ditch there also, possibly his mother, but I still cannot determine who she is.
The same Mathias Diesch that arrived Sep 25, 1751 on the ship "Phoenix" was also on a 1751 PA Early Census Index in Philadelphia Twp., Philadelphia co., PA.[source: Ancestry.com]
PA Archives Vol. 26, p. 254 states that Mathias Deitch warranty of land in Berks Co., PA. 228 acres surveyed 8 Oct 1753.
According to the AGBI, the Mathias Teach in the 1790 census in Washington County, MD was born 175? in Maryland, census on p.121.
Also noticed in the PA Achives that Mathias used the name Mathew Dyche and was serving with Daniel and Abraham Kettle. They have him listed as Dytch, Dyche, even Dutch.
Thanks for the help.
