Our earliest ancestor was Peter Taaffe, who along with his brother James came to America around 1740-1750 and settled in Virginia, later Tennessee. Looking for additional information on the Taaffe's in Ireland that he may have descended from, or any information on the names Taaffe/Taff.

Hi,
I rarely see any reference to Taaffe, so had to answer. I have a Thomas, with a brother named Peter, who came to NY from Ireland before 1812. Later they settled in WI. Peter went on to CA. Do you think there is any connection? My James was in the War of 1812. He married Catherine Kidney in Ire., later Alice English in NY.
Will await your reply.
Sue

I also have Peter and James Taaffe / Taff in my background. MY G/G/G/Grandfather was William Henry Harrison Taff of Square Rock Arkansas. I am aware of Taff relatives in Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Are you a member of the Taff orginazation that had a reunion in Missouri last summer?

I am trying to find info on my husband's ggm, Ann Taaffe. She is the daughter of Thomas Taaffe and Bridget Martin, and was born about 1843. I am told she came to U.S. when she was about six years old. She was to be met by someone in N.Y. who never showed up. She was rescued by a minister who raised her (don't have any info on him). She married Thomas Folan in N.J. where they raised seven children.

Is there any connection?

My gggrandmother Mary Taaffe had a sister named Ann who was born in Tubber, Clare in 1844, but their parents were George Taaffe Jr. and Mary Murphy. I got quite a bit of information from the Clare Heritage Center in Corofin. They have a website as part of The Irish Family History Foundation, but I don't have the URL.

My wife's great-grandmother was Bidget Carmody, maiden name Taafe. She was born in 1854 in Ireland. Her death-certificate lists her parents as Thomas Taafe and Bridget - I believe Nolan, but the last name is difficult to read. She is buried in NY with a Mary Taafe who died in 1876 at the age of 20 and a Bridget Taafe who died in 1891 at the age of 65. My name is Len I would be interested in any information on the Taafe family. My address is pastaman5@aol.com

I, too, have Peter and James Taaffe/Taff as ancestors--they fought in the Revolutionary War in 1776, had settled in Meigs County, VA. I am of the family/organization that had the reunion in Missouri, though I did not go. My uncle, H.A. Taff, researched this line extensively on this side of the "Pond," and wrote a book with genealogical information. However, we have little information of what/where/how of the Taaffes prior to coming to the colonies. My uncle gave me a map that showed counties in Ireland where there had been Taaffes; said that the Taff family had originally--eons ago--been from Wales (Taff river, etc.), but had been given land in Ireland by some King; when Cromwell came to power, he took all the land given by the kings away, the Taaffes fell out of favor/ability to pay their way, etc., and evidently left, either directly to America, or perhaps to The Netherlands before coming to America. Who knows? Would love to have more information from Ireland. My uncle would be thrilled. By the way, my uncle and dad have relatives in Waldron, AR, and some Taffs from the James side of the family live in the Rolla/Cabool, MO, area.

I am also a decendant of the Taaffe Family, there are so many conflicting stories and I am trying to tie them all together. My relatives are also from Ireland and fled from there in the 1600's. They were very wealthy and becasue of some conflict Georges' head was offered for ransom and all of his riches would be given to the person that brought his head on a platter, and so they fled to America. Some of the names connected to this side are George and Francis Taaffe. My great grandfather Tobe Taaffe was born and raised in Arkansas who was the son of George.

Please send respond and hopefully we can tie some of this info together.
