That could be! My grandfather died almost 43 years ago, and my mother doesn't remember much, but I remember him mentioning Messina once when I was asking him where his family came from. Mama thinks I was dreaming -- but she didn't ask those kind of questions and I did. Especially when Nanno was medically retired and I stayed with him in the summers. He was a Marino, but his grandmother was Giovanna Colicchia who married Vincenzo Ampola.
Keep me in mind as I'm at a brick wall with that line.
