I and the Silver Family website researchers assume he went to Oregon because his uncle Samuel Marion Silver had settled there.

They are living next door to Samuel Marion Silver and his family - Samuel is Edwin's uncle.

They are living next door to Joseph Ray and his family (#73), and 3 doors down from Samuel Marion Silver and his family (#69)(Samuel's wife Amanda is a Ray, and Joseph is Amanda's half-brother; Edwin is Samuel Marion's nephew).
