Dear Laurie,
Do you know anything about DeWalt's son, Jonathan? Did he stay in the Somerset Co. area? My ancestor, Jonathan Snyder was born ca. 1804, place unknown. However he resided for a while in Schoenersville, PA, it is not known if this is the area of his birth. One of Jonathan's grandson's was named DeWalt, and resided in Connellsville, PA. I am trying to piece together Jonathan's ancestry. Oral family history says his father or maybe his grandfather came from Germany and fought in the Revolution. Some relatives say he was on our side and some relatives stated he was a Hessian Mercenary. You know how oral family history can get twisted up in half truths. Also oral history says his named was shortened from Schneider at some point. This is all circumstantial, but this is all I have to go on. Jonathan was also known for his beautiful handwriting which gained his employment with a railroad. Anything you know about Jonathan will either connect him or eliminate him from DeWalt's family.
Thank you,
William J. Stoop
