1) George Shriner was born on May 15, 1886. George Shriner’s birth date is listed as May 08, 1885 in obituary. The date listed above is from the Social Security index. He was a coalminer and farmer. He died on Nov 23, 1964 at Brownsville, Fayette Co, Pennsylvania. George’s parents unknown.

George Shriner, 79, of 82 Elm Street, Ellsworth, died at 6:20p.m. yesterday in Broewnville General hospital. Mr. Shriner was born May 8, 1885, at Leisenring, No. 2. He had resided in the Ellsworth community the past 50 years and had been employed in area coal mines. He was a member of the Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic church, Charleroi; UMWA local 197, Cokeburg, and Ellsworth Sportsmen’s association. He was married first to Helen Russin, who died February 8, 1928. He later married Mary Sayniak, who died April 9, 1963. Survivors include six sons, Mike, Ellsworth; John, Vestaburg; Thomas, Cokeburg; Paul, Coal Center, R.D.1;Carl, zyuma, La; and Joseph, Bentleyville; four daughters; Mrs. Mary Belak, Duquesne; Mrs. Ann Breitenbach, Gibsonia; Mrs. Helen Babiak, Monongahela R.D.; Mrs. Susan Procasky, Parma Heights, O.; four step-sons; three step-daughters; 39 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A son, George, is deceased.

2) Helen Rose Russin on 1888 at Czechoslovakia. She died on February 08, 1928 at Washington Co, Pennsylvania. George and Helen Shriner came to America to get away from World War I. Helen’s parents were Mike and Mary Russin. They were either from Czechoslovakia or Austria, and again never came to the United States. There were children, who came over Helen (of course) and Mary, which her obituary is included here.



Mary Rosen Popovich
Mary Rosen Popovich, 97, of Scenery Hill, formerly of Eighty Four R.D.2, died at 9:05p.m. Sunday May 6, 1990, in her home following a lengthy illness. At the time of her death, Mrs. Popovich was the oldest resident of Scenery Hill, having lived there since 1951. She was born January 1, 1893, in Czechosvakia, a daughter of Mike and Mary Rosen. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Popovich was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Greek Catholic Church of Monongahela. On February 13, 1913, she married John Popovich, who died November 1, 1965. Surviving are three daughters, Julia Popovich at home, Mrs. John (Helen) Nester of Scenery Hill, and Mrs. James (Mary) Levers of Meadow Lands; two sons, Mike Popovich of Scenery Hill and John Popovich of Phoenix, Ariz.; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
