Aloha---
I am probably one of your many cousins through this line. I presently live in Hawaii but came from Washington state. C.C. Rachford was my great (x3) grandfather.
Anyway, this is the information I have.....
Philip Ratchford came from Trim, county Meath, Ireland. He was born in 1806 and his father was Thomas Ratchford born in 1776 and his mother was Catherine Cullen born 1780. He was married to Mary O'Reilly also from Trim, but she was born in 1809, her father was Richard O'Reilly. They came to St. Georges, Quebec from Ireland in 1831. Philip had a brother named Thomas who moved to Canada and then Madison, Wisconsin from Ireland and he married a frenchwoman.
Mary had a cousin named John Boyle O'Reilly who came to the U.S.
Philip and Mary had 11 children. They were John Ratchford, Anna Ratchford, Charles Christopher Rachford, Eliza Ratchford, Margaret "Maggie" Ratchford, James Ratchford, Emilia (Amelia) Ratchford, Mary Ratchford, Jean Moyse Ratchford, Thomas Ratchford, and Catherine Ratchford.
I am descended from Charles Christopher (C.C.) Rachford. He was the sheriff of Alturas, California. He was the first of the kids to settle in the states. He is the only one to change his name and drop the "T" from Ratchford. He was also (as far as I know) the only one to leave the Catholic Church.
Whatever, I think I am descended from a line which started with the kids of sisters in a little town in Ireland that got married!
