These are some excellent document shares. Thank you so very much for posting them so that we all might gain some valuable use of them.
I'm not sure if I descend from Col. Nathaniel Pope, or not. I have received a lot of AncestryDNA matches with others who have "constructed" or "manufactured" links to him, but nothing that historic documents demonstrate to be valid. So far, the furthest back that I have been able to trace my Pope line, with absolute certainty, is to my 3rd great grandfather, William H. Pope of Marengo County, AL. There are only a couple of historic documents which I have been able to find on him, and not much info in those documents at all.
Interesting enough (or should I say "ironically"), there are a couple of hints within my proven line that lead me to believe that I may actually be descended from Col. Nathaniel Pope (Note: WMCQ stands for 'William and Mary College Quarterly; Roman numerals represent volumes and Arabic numbers represent issues) -
(1) In WMCQ-XII-3 and WMCQ-XXIV-3, Nathaniel Pope's (Thomas, Nathaniel) mother-in-law was an Underwood; My grandmother's maiden surname was Underwood.
(2) In WMCQ-XII-4, Tabitha C Pope married a Hill and, according to 'The Hills of Wiles County, Georgia', the Hill family has since been continuously intermarried with the Pope family; My great grandmother's maiden name was Hill.
Anyhow, I am now researching the descendancy of Col. Nathaniel Pope, hopin that one day that research and the research I've put into my personal family tree will somehow meet in the middle.
Once again, thanks for sharing those excellent documents.
Roy D. Pope, Jr.
