Hey Gary,
The information that I have gathered on this family states that John A. Polson (born around 1884 based on the Chesterfield SC 1900 census) was the son of John M. Polson and Mattie Sharp. I have researched and researched, trying to find the parents of John M. Polson and the best GUESS I can offer you is that he may have been the son of Mandaville Polson and Betsy ? who are listed in several of the Chesterfield census, the best one to start with is the 1850 census. I do want to iterate that this lineage is a pure guess on my part but Mandaville and Betsy did have a son named John M. Polson, who according to the 1850 census was born c.1835. The 1900 census has him born c. 1842 but I have found from many years of research not to expect exact dates.
A Mattie E. Polson of Buffalo, SC applies for her husband Civil War pension 5/3/1919. The two character witnesses listed on the Civil War pension application were Caleb Coker and George A. Malloy. Both of these men lived in Chesterfield County, SC. A John Polson and Mattie were married 12/12/1892. A John Polson enlisted in the Civil War 8/12/1863 and fought for Captain M.G. Tarrh. A John Polson died 4/19/1918.
I hope some of this helps your research.
Sincerely,
Norma Polson Baugh
