Do you know where your granmother was from - what city, what country?

It sounds like she was Polish, married to a Russian - the countries were intermingled at different times - also Petrosky has been known to be a Jewish name - of course the first name Casmir is not a Jewish name - however many people in doing a family tree have discovered Jewish roots - people converted to avoid discrimination - Madaline Albright is one good example -

Also in St. Louis someone who worked with my husband discvoreed that he was related to someone there who was Jewish

Another instance is that I met a woman who had just found out from her mother that her mother's grandfather was Jewish = but that they were not allowed to talk about it.

Apparently her grandparents came from
Germany in the early 1900s and settled in a non Jewish area in Illinois and assimilated into the community because "it was easier not to be Jewish".

The other thing is that so many names have been changed or just the spelling has been changed it is difficult to trace

My cousin just found out that his paternal grandfather's name was totally different and in England they were thought to be Irish because of the name and relatives in Argentina spell it differently.

Also his maternal grandmother - my father's sis ter had a totally different spelling of her last name on her marriage licence than we knew and also that it was spelled other ways too - confusing to say the least.

Ah - the questions I wish I had asked my parents when they were alive.

I just found an 89 year old cousin of my fathers who gave me information about that side of the family that cleared up some questions but opened many others.
