In researching my family lines, I came across a number of conflicting sources in regards to Angelina Parish (or Parrish), as follows...
FIRST, I found this in 'The Hills of Wilkes County, Georgia and Allied Families' (p.226):
"McKennie, John, Edgecombe, will, 28 Feby., 1753. Son Barnaby, dans. Mary, Patience and Martha, dau.-in-law Angelina Parish, child in esse, Wife Mary, Connor Cumbo: Wife and Montfort Eulbach Exrs. I give and bequeath my loving wife .... the use of my grist mill on Great Quonkee two years next ensuing for pay for the giving each of my children before mentioned two years schooling. Test.: Montfort Eulbeck, Wm. Gaddy, Mary Eulbeck. (Reg. 1—345; Abstract of N. C. Wills, p. 233)."
The above indicates that Angelina Parish was daughter-in-law of John McKennie. This suggests that she was married to Barnaby McKennie.
SECOND, I went to the source of that snippet and found this in 'Abstracts of North Carolina Wills' (p.233):
"Mackinne, John. Edgecombe County. February 28, 1753. May Court, 1753. Son: Barnaby. Daughters: Mary, Martha and Patience Mackinne, Angelina Parish. Wife and Executrix: Mary. Friend: Cannon Cumbo. Executor: Montfort Elbeck. Witnesses: Montfort Elbeck, William Gaddy, Mary Elbeck. Clerk of the Court: Benj'n Wynns. I give and bequeath my loving wife .... the use of my grist mill on Great Quonkee two years next ensuing for pay for the giveing each of my children before mentioned two years schooling."
In this, it appears as though John Mckinne is identifying Angelina Parish as his daughter (not as a daughter-in-law). If this is the case then it would mean that her name was actually Angelina (Mackinne) Parish, suggesting that she was or had been married to a man named Parrish.
THIRD, I came across a Texas Society SAR Application for Membership (National Number 72818; State Number 880) which indicates that Angelina Parrish was wife of Barnabie Pope, the son of John and Mourning (Mackinne) Pope, the son of Henry and Sarah (Watts) Pope.
If the lineage presented in this application is correct, it will reinforce the assumption made in the second item above, that Angelina was a Mackinne and that she had been previously married to a Parrish. On the other hand, if this lineage is incorrect then it would mean that there are an awful lot of family trees out there with bad info.
The applicant to the SAR (above) stated that D.A.R. Lineage Books were referred to in constructing the lineage presented in the application. Therefore, I referred to the searchable database of the D.A.R. The D.A.R. has Angelina Parrish named as Sarah Parrish in all of its applications for membership based on relation to Barnaby Pope. Their records indicate also that Sarah Parrish was a.k.a. Angelina Parrish. (D.A.R. National Numbers: 279778, 279779, 280145, 280227, 408575, 467740, 268488, 572897, 295025, 647649, 730556)
FOURTH: The U.S. and International Marriage Records (1560-1900) indicate that Angelina Parrish married Barnaby Pope.
So, I have a question... which lineage given for Angelina Parish is the correct one>?
