I am descended from a William Ogg of Wick, Scotland through my maternal Grandmother. Once here, they changed their name to Hogg, for some unknown reason. We think that with the thick Scottish accent, the people mistook what he was saying and wrote down "Hogg" and not wanting to start trouble, he let it stick. In the late 1790s, the name was changed by Richard Peckham Hogg to Church. Technically, my Grandmother was an Ogg. The Ogg family was a very nobile one and was very prominant within that part of Scotland. The wife of William was raised in a castle there.
