There was a John Nelson mining Iron Ore on Snow Creek as early as 1765; possibly father of William Nelson, Sr, b: 1765, who had several sons..
One of whom may have been my Elisha/Elijah Nelson b; 1790 d: ???? married Sary Radford 11 August 1808 in Stokes County.
My 2nd great-grandfather, their son. J. Marshall Nelson b: 7 January 1822 NC d: 4 April 1900 TN married Elizabeth Standley 1840 either VA or NC.
Their children included:
James William 1842-1884, John 1844-1862, Jasper Lafayette 1845-1916, Margaret Jane, Mary Ann, Nancy Emmaline, Joseph, David, Franklin McTear (Frank), Thomas Dunn, Elijah Green and one or two more, which I cannot rmember.
Jasper fought with the 3rd Tennessee Cavlary on the Union side, lived for a short time in Kansas, and settled in Braxton County, WV where he married Susan C. Hubbard in October 1872. They had several daughters, and one son, my grandfather, James William Nelson b: 3 Feb 1885 d: 14 Dec 1974. He married Mary Etta Carr 8 Sep 1910 and had five children: Paul (my Dad) 1913-1990, Jasper 1915-2004,Virginia Arline, James 1919-1995, and Bertha Ann.
Marshall Nelson migrated around between Watauga County, NC to Washington County, VA; to Caldwell County NC to Washington County, TN and back to Caldwell County, NC, where he and his wife seperated about 1885, Marshall was living in TN at his death.
Can anyone connect to this family
