I've been trying to find a town of origin for my Myszewski line for a while with no luck. Some time back, we located a copy of a German document regarding John Myszewski which Robert Mathia was able to get translated for me. Here is a snip:

"You were right --- the title on the form says something like "leadership or conduct certificate". Then his name is shown as "Fusilier Johann Mischefski" (so apparantly he was a rifleman. The gal couldn't read the next line, but the 3rd line is something like "8th (something) infantry regiment". The 4th line is his date of birth (July 9, 1845) in Staban, Pr. Starogard, Danzig. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a birth record ---- since I'm reviewing the Pr. Starogard area."
