Hello Peter and other Mortimer/Mortimore/Mortymer researchers,
I've traced back to 16th cent Mortymers in central Devon (sheep farming) and think they moved closer to Exeter and became involved in manufacture eg felt-making ( John Mortymore of Exeter St. Sidwell, many children including our possible first-known ROBERT b 1592. Robert began a new line centered in Eastbourne Sussex. My Windows Live entries are at http://mortimergenealogy.spaces.live.com/blog/ . See my optusnet web site link (Jan), and Mortymer names on 16th.cent Subsidy Rolls in blog entries for Feb, March.
Are these name variations significant -? - am curious what other researchers have found out. Have Devon Worthy wills CD if you want a look-up, and am involved in familydna testing, awaiting results shortly.
