I am a descendant of these people. the Earl of Berkely title is from oral history provided by Evaline Mclean Daughter of John Steele and Elizabeth Kirk Mclean. I have heard of a ruin that is across the coast from the Isle of Mull that was called Berkely (pronounced Bark elA) this is Mclean territory but after the failed Jacobite Rebellion, the government destroyed most of the Mclean strongholds. they killed or drove out the Mclean Jacobites. which would explain the imigration of those people.
