Thanks for the info. I had already thought there was a family connection between the Rackliff's and McFarlands, I just didn't know what it was. So, I feel confident we're on the right track. The tough part will be obtaining information beyond Walter & Susan b/c the census' completed during their childhood didn't contain the names of the household members. So, it may be difficult to reconstruct the famiy. However, there is substantial McFarland Genealogy published re Maine McFarlands . I haven't been able to locate this branch in it - yet.

Below is a link to a website that contains the Town Officer Records for Detroit, Maine. John Rackliff is listed as the Town Treasurer from 1883-1891. Walter McFarland is listed as a Selectman for several of those years.
