Yes the J. stands for John as that was the name of Sir Ian Clar MacDougall who was 22nd Chief of Clan and fought in the first Jacobite rising and forfeited the his lands restored to Sir Alexander MacDougall in abt 1745. If you search with the spelling of MacDougall you may have better results.
