Surnames: McCullough
There is a Hugh McCullough that is my 5th great grandfather. If this is the correct person, the following is what I know. John McCullough was born in 1715 in Scotland (there is a dispute over whether it was Scotland or Ireland). John arrived in 1736. He actually had five brother. They, were (eldest to youngest) Nathaniel, Thomas, Hugh (my line), William McCullough, and James McCullough(almost nothing is known of him). There were many land grants given to the family. I found at least three different ones for Hugh. They were instrumental in the settling of Williamsburg County, SC. I am fairly certain they were of the Presbyterian faith because John McCullough signed a petition to Henry McCullough, Esq. (commissioner appointed by the King) to restrain from giving property (in Williamsburg) to anyone except Irish Protestants on 9 May 1742. Later it says ...To these Presbyterians must be accorded the 1st place in making cloth called "Hollands." I know that John and Hugh served in the American Revolution.

John married Elizabeth James the daughter of William James.

If this is the correct family, I hope it helps. Let me know if there is anything else.
