I have been attempting to trace - when time and budget permits - my Lindsey ancestry.

My Grandfather Walter Galloway (Gallaway) Lindsey was born 2 December 1909 in York, York County, Pennsylvania; his parents were Walter Cleveland and Margaret (Learn)Lindsey. According to his birth certificate their residence was located at 35 East South Street, York, York County, Pennsylvania.

After contacting the church that he and my grandmother, Edith (Beardsell)attended prior to their deaths, I was able to find out that my grandfather was baptized at the Calvary Presbyterian Church, York, Pennsylvania in 1910.

Contacting First Presbyterian Church (formerly Calvary Presbyterian), York, Pennsylvania I was able to to learn the following information:

born about 1885, Luzern County, Pennsylvania

MARY LINDSEY (Daughter)
born about 1908, York, York County, Pennsylvania

WALTER GALLOWAY [GALLAWAY] LINDSEY (Son[my grandfather])
born 2 December 1909, York, York County, Pennsylvania

WILLIAM GORDON LINDSEY (Son)
born 5 November 1910, York, York County, Pennsylvania

MARETTA GRACE LINDSEY (Daughter)
born 10 July 1913, York, York county, Pennsylvania

While the 1910 census would seem to bear this information out - at that time the family lived on South Street, York, Pennsylvania and Maretta had not yet been born.

From the information that the church was able to provide, I believe that Walter Cleveland's parents (Walter Galloway's grandparents} were EMMA T. SWINGLER, born about June 1856, York, York County, Pennsylvania and William H. Lindsey, born about December 1852, York, York County, Pennsylvania.

I also know from living with my grandparents as a child, that my Great-Grandmother Margaret Lindsey remarried at some point; not sure whether my Great-Grandfather had passed away or whether they divorced. I do know that her second husband was Robert Harris and that they lived in Bristol, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

I have to date been unsuccessful in finding a date of marriage - newspaper announcement / marriage certificate that will help me to definitely prove the information both that my grandfather (Walter G.) and the church have provided. Once I am able to do this, I can move on to proving the other information I have and going from there.

By the way, my grandfather (Walter G.) married Edith Bearsell, 2 June 1943, Hobbs, New Mexico. My grandfather was stationed, at the time, at Hobbs Army Air Field, Hobbs, New Mexico. After the war, they returned to Audubon, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and lived there until my grandmother required nursing home care; after which my grandfather lived with us in Graterford, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania until he died in 1992.
