I saw your 2009 post to this message board regarding the "Lachowicz" name. Regarding the spelling variations of this name, I have a "Lachocki" in my son's ancestry. His great-grandmother was a "Lachocki" and married a "Pawlowski". They lived in Cleveland, OH. They had a daughter who married "Falensky(i)".
Is this one of the variations of the Lachowicz name that you have found. And I agree understanding and interpretation of the names at Ellis Island or elsewhere that immigrants entered the United States during those times.
Anna Lachocki was still speaking broken English (mixed with Polish) when she died in 1965.
