AuSABLE FORKS — Roger J. Kyea, 66, of Route 9N, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2002, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

He was born in AuSable Forks on July 11, 1935, the son of Jerry and Marie "Sawyer" Kyea.

He served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He owned and operated Kyea’s Disposal Service and was bus driver for AuSable Valley School until illness forced him to retire in 1994. He also was co-owner of Kyea’s Ceramics.

He was a member of Holy Name Church and American Legion Post 504 in AuSable Forks. He also enjoyed bowling and was a past firefighter for the AuSable Forks Fire District and served as councilman and assessor for the Town of Black Brook.

He is survived by his wife Donna M. (Rushia) Kyea, whom he married June 4, 1960. Also surviving are his children, Timothy Kyea and Tracey Howard of AuSable Forks, Lisa Kyea and Richard Haviland of Ohio, Daniel and Nicole Kyea of Ohio, and Gregory Roy Jr. and Cathy Roy of Peru; grandchildren, Heather Kyea of Pennsylvania, Marcus Kyea of Missouri, Caitlin and Nathan Roy of Peru, and Kyla and Tyler Kyea of Ohio; and a great granddaughter, Kalin Mongia of Pennsylvania. Brothers, sisters and spouses who survive are Floyd Kyea of AuSable Forks, Virginia and Tom Wray of Vestal, Gertrude Klubertanz of Rochester, Paul and Carolyn Kyea of Plattsburgh, Gail Kyea of Plattsburgh, Robert and Peggy Kyea of AuSable Forks, Marlene Kyea of Queensbury, and Marvin and Pam Kyea of AuSable Forks; also several nieces and nephews and many very close friends who have been there for him and his family through eight years of illness.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Wallace and Leonard Kyea, three sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law. There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at Holy Name Catholic Church in AuSable Forks on Friday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at the Parish Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the R.K. Freedman Renal Center in Plattsburgh or the Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown. Zaumetzer-Sprague Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
