Richard, I have a great great grandmother with the surname of Kuhn who supposedly was from the Alsace region. I was expecting to get many German/French DNA matches, but I have lots of matches who have Portuguese surnames instead, in Brazil, the Azores, Portugal, and Hawaii.

My mtDNA should be directly linked to my great great grandmother Catherina Kuhn. She married Philippe Schoettler. They raised their family in Detroit.

My mtDNA matche some people who have female ancestors in the Azores. I have autosomal matches there. My third cousin and my mom also match many of the same people,
