Stephen G. Kmecik, 86, of East Springfield, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his residence. Born May 25, 1925, in Cranesville,pa, he was a son of the late Stephen M. and Susan Schwartz Kmecik. Steve was a graduate of Albion High School Class of 1941 and was a life long farmer owning and operating his own potato farm, with the help of his family. Steve belonged to the Albion Lions Club and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Albion. In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, in January 2011, a daughter, Linda Sue Kmecik, a son, Stephen Kmecik III, a sister, Esther Frey, and a brother, Robert Kmecik. He is survived by two daughters, Carol A. Struchen and her husband Raymond of Fairview, and Susanne R. Kuhn and her husband Stephen of Lake City; three sons, Ronald G. Kmecik and his wife Debra of Lake City, Thomas J. Kmecik of East Springfield, and Daniel R. Kmecik and his wife Brenda, also of East Springfield; a sister, Darlene Marshall and her husband Butch of Stuart, Fla.; 11 grandchildren: Renee Isham and her husband Tom, Russell Struchen, Jennifer and Stephen Kuhn, David Kmecik and his wife Kristin, Joy DeBoer and her husband Jordan, Jessica Cashbolm, Jannelle, Mark, Cody and Marybeth Kmecik; three great-grandchildren: Austin and Alyssa Isham, and Grace Noble; as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 80 Third Avenue, Albion, with Rev. Fred Poeppel officiating. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Albion FFA, Northwestern High School, 100 Harthan Way, Albion, PA 16401.
