Mark Iutcovich, Ph.D.
Loving father, entrepreneur, sociology professor, and political activist, Mark Iutcovich, whose life amazed all, died Monday, January 19, 2009 with his loving family and friends by his side.
He was 25 in spirit.
As a young adult, Mark fled his homeland of Romania and embarked on a journey that took him to Canada and the United States to begin a new life as an immigrant.
From the most menial jobs like washing bottles in the Coca-Cola plant through the earning of his Ph.D. and the building of a successful business, Dr. Iuctovich’s experiences mirror the hurdles faced by many new immigrants struggling to establish themselves in their new country. He was a professor of Methodology and Theory Research at Edinboro University for 40 years before his retirement in 2003. Although he engrossed himself in many different endeavors in his lifetime he was proudest of his two daughters and having them in his life.
He is survived by his two daughters, Mara Iutcovich and Nadia Carlin; his son-in-law Drew Carlin
and many friends that he cherished as family. He will be remembered as a generous, kind man who loved hockey, swimming and his three BBQ grills. Calling hours will be at the Brugger Home for Funerals LLP, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard on Friday, January 23rd, from 3 to 7 p.m. All are invited back to the family’s home to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joseph and Matilda Iutcovich Sociology Scholarship.
to The Edinboro University Foundation and sent to Edinboro University; 210 Meadville Street; Edinboro, PA 16444.
