AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - - John “Jack” Ifft, 74, passed away late Saturday morning, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Woodlands at AustinWoods.

John was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Youngstown, Ohio a son of the late Lester and Louise Davis Ifft, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a graduate of Hubbard High School and served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 101st Airborne Division.

Jack was employed at Republic Rubber/Aeroquip from 1963 until they closed in 1978.
He subsequently worked as a journeyman machinist for Easco Aluminum until he retired in February of 1999. While employed at Easco. He was also President of United Steel Workers Union local No. 4564 from 1982 to 1986.

John was also Auxiliary Police Officer for Austintown Township from 1972 to 1982.

He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He leaves his wife of 49 years, Anita “Dolly” Piccolo Ifft, whom he married Sept. 7, 1963; his daughter, Jodi (Tim) Bednar of Canfield, Ohio; three grandchildren, Layni, Jake, and Layken; sisters, Sally and Lu Ann of Florida, and Cindy of Georgia; brothers, Larry and Jerry of Ohio, David and Dennis of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death a brother, Tim.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road in Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Church in Austintown, Ohio.
