Pastor Eldon H. Huston
Gadsden, Alabama -- Pastor Eldon H. Huston, age 68, of Annville, KY, formerly of Conneaut, OH, died unexpectedly of a probably coronary Sunday, January 15, 2006, in Gadsden, Alabama while on a mission trip. He was born June 19, 1937, in Monroe Township, Ohio, and was a son of Howard I. and Mildred (Graves) Huston.
Following graduation from Conneaut High School, he was employed as a mechanic at Emhoff Motors and Lillie-Holden Ford; progressed to maintenance director at Conneaut Rubber and Plastics until its acquisition by Norton Company when he became plant manager. Following Norton's closing, he helped Plycraft Doors (now Wayne-Dalton) build its new location. While he was plant manager there from 1984 to 1989, he was instrumental in hiring many of the employees who had lost jobs when Norton's closed.
Pastor Huston attended Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, and later served the Kelloggsville United Methodist Church from 1973 to 1988, the South Harpersfield Church in Cork Township, OH from 1988 to 1990, and was currently pastor of the Annville United Methodist Church in Annville, KY.
While in Conneaut, he was a member of the Conneaut Chamber of Commerce, the Conneaut Rotary Club, the Conneaut Area Ministerial Association, and the Council for Dynamic Rural Ministries of Ashtabula County. During that time, Pastor Huston and his wife served as foster parents for over 15 years. He was also a Boy Scout leader at one time.
After moving to Annville, KY, he served as an EMT and was chief of the volunteer fire department. He also served as Director of Maintenance of Housing Development for Red Bird Mission in Beverly, KY.
He was an avid woodworker, and enjoyed computers, gardening, and singing. He was a people person with a great sense of humor, and had a special relationship with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife Naomi (Watts) Huston whom he married July 20, 1957; two daughters, Beth (Michael) Christiansen of Monroe Township, OH, and Connie (Robert) Hodde of Wingate, NC; three sons, Dr. Gary and Karen Huston of Albion, PA, Paul and Robin of Sheffield Twp, OH, and Wayne and Kimberly of Monroe Township, OH; his sister Lida (Milton) Maurer of Kingsville, OH; his brother Floyd L. (Eleanor) Huston of Monroe Township, OH; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Doris.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2006, at Stateline United Methodist Church, 7330 Bushnell Rd., Monroe Township, OH with the Rev. David Anderson, pastor of Gageville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Kelloggsville Cemetery, Monroe Township, OH.
Friends may call at the State Line United Methodist Church on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Red Bird Mission, Beverly, KY, or Nueva Expernza, c/o Lida Maurer. Envelopes will be available at the church and at the Marcy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut, OH, which has charge of arrangements.
