The information I had for Matthias Hoven may have been incomplete...it appears the Hoven family was quite large and thus records get jumbled/mixed up in the world of internet genealogy.

I do show that Peter Hoven was born in 1805 and came to the US in 1846/1847. He likely married twice, to a Catherina Miller and later to a Catherine Erschens. Catherina Miller died in 1851 (same year as the birth of her last child, Gertrude) so I surmise it may have been childbirth-related. Either way, Peter Hoven married Catherine Erschens in Trenton, WI in 1853. Peter served in the Civil War as a Second Lieutenant in Company H of the 2nd Regiment of the Wisconsin Calvary Volunteers. Sometime between 1860-1870 he moved the family from Wisconsin to Odell in Livingston Co, Illinois. Between 1880 and 1890, they moved to Hoven in Potter Co, South Dakota.
