I am a great granddaughter of Pricey Holloway. Yes, there seems to be a big mystery with Pricey.
I was told by my mother, daughter of Charles M. Holloway, son of Pricey by Henry Roach about Pricey and Henry not being married. At least, they could not find a record of it nor has anyone since that I know. My aunts said their father was not a bastard. Mom said that is what the Roach family called them- Halfbreed bastards. So what. I believe that Henry loved his Pricey and his children. I saw his will and it read like he loved them to me.
I was told that Pricey and a sister were left with a family off of the Trail of Tears. Where exactly is the question. There was a Pricey Holloway living with a William and Polly Holloway in Marion, Tennesse. Lore in their family also told of the two Indian sisters left with a family.. My mom said it was Pricey who was hidden in the skirts of the lady of the house when they left to move on. My mom also said that she thought the sister was Plasida. But Plasida was the sister of her mother, Renee (Beauty) Flinn Holloway.
So she did not remember the sister's name. She did find the Tennessee Pricey so she did not look further. Pricey Holoway showed up in Jackson County Tennessee with the children in several census. But the Tennessee Pricey and the Alabama Pricey were in the 1860. Unless that census was taken in the first of the year and the last of the year which I have not checked yet then it is not the same Pricey. The Tennessee Pricey married a Hiram Smith and moved to Arkansas. She had three children about the time Pricey had her children in Alabama.
I have seen a pension application for James H. Holloway's widow. Pricey Holloway states that she was at the wedding of her brother and this widow. It only has her mark but it was from the right area. So Pricey seems to have had a brother named James H. Holloway.
My mom talked a lot about Uncle Rob with all the children. This was her uncle, brother to Charlie and Milton. I don't remember Uncle Mitt being discussed much. I think that Robert Milton is Milton's son. I met and knew Matt Holloway and his wife, Allie, in Cameron, Texas. I met a young Holloway with a wife(name unknown) that had several children who were all (father, mother and 3 children) killed in Houston, Texas when I was about nineteen which would have been about 1962. I think he was Matt's son but I could have been wrong.
I am going to put this on the Message Board so others can read it.
