Carol/Jon
Yes - Emily was a widow, I had initially assumed she was a sister, but now have realized that William Henry Hill’s father, also is called William Henry Hill, so naturally Emily had that on her marriage cert.
Yes James Oxford died and Emily remarried in 1868 to TOM HOPGOOD, and he is the witness on Charles and Emily’s marriage cert. You have a slight different copy to mine, see attached, mine came from the General Records office I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.
So we know that Charles knew Tom Hopgood and Emily Oxford, & Charles' father is also William Henry Hill, On Emily and Tom’s marriage cert in 1868, the witness is CATHERINE ANN HILL (William Henry's wife re 1845) This is the link but I don't know how, not being able to find Charles birth.
Charles’s death cert is from NZ, he died in 1911, unsure where lighthouse keeper occupation came from, father down as Henry Hill, I have Henry Hill as a laborer, unless he changed jobs a few times. Charles’s mother is also left as blank.
I found a 17 year old Charles living with a Mary-Ann Hill on the 61 census, not sure if they’re related to my lot. Also - On the 61 census Henry Hill is a drain layer I think, he says he employs one son, but his two in the household are 9 & 12, I don't know what age boys started working, Charles should of been 17 at the time.
