They had at least 3 children: Elizabeth b. 1852, Charlesl b. 1854, Edgar b. 1859 all b. in Jackson Co., MO. They left Missouri during the Civil War moving on to Arkansas and then to Sonoma, California.

There is a death announcement in Randolph Co., AR Newspapers 1873-1899 for an infant James Ruffner d. at the Brick Hotel Oct 21. Possibly a child?

Nancy Patton was b. 1822 TN. Nancy & James were still living in Sonoma in the 1900 Census.
