I descend from Adolf Mathiessen Hegstad who was born in 1849 on the Island of Hitra, Norway. Adolf used the surname Hegstad, but I believe it was a farm name.

Do you know "where" on the Island of Hitra that Hegstad or Hagstad was located. Years ago the Research Desk at the Family History Library in Salt Lake gave me a vague reference to where they thought it was located, but they were not positive about it.

Any help would be appreciated. His 1849 birth/christening is in Hitra Church parish records. -- Helen Graves (hgraves@psln.com)
