I have DNA tested thru Family Tree DNA. My 3x-great-grandfather was John Hassett b.c.1806 Ireland. Marriage records list the name as John Hassen and baptismal records of children as John Hassan. Sponsors and witnesses of marriage and baptisms have surname spellings of Hassan & Hassett, amongst others. John Hassen m. Catherine Batersby (Catharine Batterby according to family) in Clonmellon Paris, Brownstown, County Westmeath. There was one other Hassett in the area, Phelim Hassett, as noticed in Griffiths Valuation, seen in another location as Phelim Hassen. My family emigrated to the US in 1849 from Dublin. We know of no parents nor siblings for John and I believe he was born & raised somewhere other than County Westmeath. I do also DNA match with some Blennerhassetts, unknown why.
