I don't know whether you are still monitoring this post, but here goes. My Harter line has been traced back to Georg Harter and Eva Bracker who were married 1752 in LeHigh County, PA. In 1769 they showed up in Frederick County MD, Lutheran church records. About 1790 they moved on to southern Virginia, but one son, Jacob Harter, stayed behind. I believe one of his sons, George Harter (1783-1861) moved to Harrison County, WV, and married Sarah Bebout. That George was Jacob's son is not firmly proven, but strongly indicated. George and Sarah had two sons, William and Charles, but to date I have found no information on them. Since Harrison County is just west of Grafton it is entirely possible that TK was his grandson. This should give a bit of a lead to pursue. I have not had a chance to do any research in WV, so would be very interested if you find anything.
